Human speech is perhaps the most powerful weapon in the entire world. It has moved millions to engage in war and to explore space, and words have caused men to leave the comfort of their home and ride upon the oceans in ships in search of unknown places. Words motivate people because they are the motor of the soul. When a writer writes their soul is being plumbed to the depths for every last drop of inspiration, exaggeration and inculcation that exists within them. Whether you like what someone is saying or not is unimportant. Rather what is important is the fact that someone has the guts to open their mouth and say what they feel. This is a gift and a talent when used properly.
I’ve done a lot of thinking about Barack Obama and what he represents. To me, he represents a whole new movement of respect for bullshitting. Bullshitting is the art of dropping fresh piles of unrefined thoughts that come from about the level of the human esophagus. Bullshit is semi-digested soul food. It doesn’t yet smell bad enough to be shit, and you can still taste the bull. People who bullshit are mostly people who don’t have the guts to swallow bull and then refine it within them as it mixes with the bile of ones own life experiences.
People who complain a lot are giant bullshitters. The way in which complainers express themselves is at a primal level of whether they feel like the world has given them a raw deal or not. To someone who bitches about life a lot of the time, there is no such of thing as true self-expression. People who bitch and moan are not interested in how they really feel because no matter how good or bad things get someone else will always get the credit or the blame for it. For bullshitter’s it’s all about being on the short end of the stick.
Well now, here we have a choice to make with respect to how we treat our readers here at The Daily Nigger. Sure, it’s tempting to become a giant bullshitter and blame the whole mess we’re in on Obama. But the fact is, he is nothing but a guy who knows how to relate to people who bullshit a lot. He is the poster boy for the new victim society as mandated by the mainstream media, which says to everyone that all you need to do in life is go to school, get a job, and settle down. Well, I don’t mind the school part, and I will always need a job. But settling down is something that I definitely would only advocate for if all you wanted in life was just to get by.
Yes, we’re in a conundrum here because we don’t want to just yap all day long about the way Obama is fucking up the world, because then we would become just another one of this merry band of victims. We reject victimization and the whole victim mentality at The Daily Nigger. You might say that it just wouldn’t fit in with our, ahem, motif. After all, we take pride in our niggardly behavior because we don’t want to stick out like a sore thumb and be recognized. Nope, we’re just a bunch of nasty minded people hiding out among the many multitudes of bullshitters. That’s why we ran the Eddie Murphy joke about the bear and rabbit. A bear and a rabbit were in the woods, and the bear turns to the rabbit and asks him if shit sticks to his fur when he takes a dump. The rabbit replies to the bear that it doesn’t, and so the bear wipes his ass with the rabbit. We celebrate this experience here at The Daily Nigger because this is the way that life generally is and we don’t make excuses for the fact that life sucks a lot of the time.
That’s why we decided to put up the David Allen Coe video. He was in and out of prison from the age of 9 and there were rumors about his having been on death row for killing another inmate who demanded oral sex. There are conflicting reports about the truth of this incident, but Coe went on to write the song, “I’d Like to Kick the Shit Out of You.” Actually, Coe did not serve time on death row but rather was paroled from a reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio in 1967. Coe’s songs use the word nigger and makes derogatory references to women, however, the message beyond the lyrics is that of the truth of the human soul.
Believe me when I tell you that you can’t make up stuff when you write otherwise you will be laughed away. People who know better know when somebody is bullshitting, and those are exactly the type of readers we want at The Daily Nigger. We don’t want to become like CNN, MSNBC, Fox or God forbid The Daily Kos. We don’t worship sameness that has been sanitized for your protection. We encourage people to reach down into their soul and pull up whatever there is down there even if it wreaks of bile and human waste. We don’t care. We respect people who can tell the truth about life even if it isn’t really their own.
You see, a good writer is someone who has already passed the initial stage of writing truthfully about themselves. Once you have graduated from that level you are free to begin trying your hand at writing about others honestly as well. Writing is both an art and a science. It is a gift that comes with a huge burden, because one has to always be mindful of being honest in order to survive and this is an art. But a good writer needs a system in place to constantly remind themselves to be truthful. Once you become known as a writer, the very worst thing that could happen is if you start talking out of your ass. This of course means that you are now reaching for the lubricant that the motor of the soul has already used. It is worthless matter at that point, and talking mindlessly is a sign that someone’s timing is seriously off. Talking a line of shit only causes you to make up even more shit, and the soul becomes a slave to the machine.
Yes, it’s true that we don’t particularly care for the mainstream media at The Daily Nigger because it is the great bandleader of the bullshitters and people who talk out of their ass. It is great for us because it gives us a lot of wonderful material to work with and it makes our lives as writers easier. But after a while it gets pretty boring, day after day pointing out how people are being led around by the nose. The scariest thing about these times is that being a victim of the words of someone else has almost been perfected by the media. They seem to know all the right buttons to push to get the job done. They’ve almost managed to turn people into robots who are supposed to believe every thing they say or at least take it to heart and think about it. I mean, who ever heard of a pregnant man for chrissakes. Give me a break!
What we say here is that nobody should fear us because we think we’re being straight up with all you people. We’re trying really hard to be honest about the way things are right now. We try to keep our finger on the pulse of the great vein of society without getting injected into it. We have to be above board while at the same knee deep in the matter. It’s hard work remaining objective and truthful when everyone it seems is hell bent on bullshitting. We’re not trying to be mean to anybody, but it sure is getting very difficult not to be. Maybe instead of going on line and looking for a can of bullshit repellent we’ll just settle for a little David Allen Coe music instead. At least when he bullshitted the bullshit was real. The fact of the matter is that you can’t make words say things that are not true and still call yourself a writer.
