The mainstream media is now reporting on what The Daily Nigger has been saying all along for days now. That is, the so-called ‘Cash for Clunkers’ program is completely fucked. Dealers have not been paid and cash is running out. Alas, the next in a series of inconvenient truths is emerging much to the dismay of the megaglomerate mainsteam media Obama sycophants that are left trying to decide what to do with this pathetic story besides simply report it for the colossal failure that it is. And yet, Democrats think they can run a national health care program. What a crock of shit.

The government’s $1 billion “cash for clunkers” program, aimed at boosting stagnant auto sales, is almost out of money, putting its future in question, according to sources familiar with the effort.

Passed by Congress in late June to help the flagging U.S. auto industry and launched just a week ago, the program gives vouchers worth up to $4,500 to consumers who trade in gas-guzzling cars for more fuel-efficient models. The highly publicized effort was scheduled to run until Nov. 1, or until money ran out. It was not expected to run out of cash so quickly.

The effort, formally known as the Car Allowance Rebate System, or CARS, appeared headed for a temporary shutdown at midnight Thursday. Federal transportation officials became increasingly concerned that the program’s popularity could completely drain its budget by week’s end, according to sources familiar with the discussions who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood called lawmakers Thursday afternoon to warn them the program would be halted at midnight, according to congressional sources. Several other sources in the administration and on Capitol Hill also said the effort faced a midnight suspension.

But later, administration officials said that no such suspension was planned and that all valid transactions under the program would be honored. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said in a statement that the administration is “evaluating all options” to keep the program funded.

“We are working tonight to assess the situation facing what is obviously an incredibly popular program,” the statement said. “Auto dealers and consumers should have confidence that all valid CARS transactions that have taken place to-date will be honored.”

Lawmakers from Michigan held a conference call Thursday night to discuss the matter and were scheduled to take up the issue again Friday morning. They were also preparing to speak with Obama administration officials about obtaining more funding.

“We’re going to try to figure out what’s a realistic amount of money and get it into the program,” said Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.).

The official Web site for the program, Cars.gov, said last night that $779 million remained in its coffers. Transportation Department officials said last night they were working with the White House and congressional leaders to find ways to sustain the program.

Auto dealers said they’ve had an overwhelming response from consumers wanting to turn in their clunkers. Under the program, consumers get a voucher for up to $4,500 — depending on the model and average fuel economy of their car or truck — if they buy a new car or truck that gets better gas mileage than the one that was scrapped. The payoff grows depending on the difference in the fuel efficiencies of the old and new cars.

“Clearly, this has been a very stimulative program that’s got consumers back into the car market. It’s our hope that possibly more funds can be made available,” said Cody Lusk, president of the American International Automobile Dealers Association.

Lusk said the group has fielded hundreds of calls from frustrated dealers who have had problems entering vehicle data into the program’s Web site. He said frequent crashes of the site have made it harder for car sellers to complete deals.

Jack Fitzgerald, who owns several dealerships in the Washington region, said his stores have already taken in about 200 clunkers. He said the government hyped the program too much before setting clear rules and guidelines on it. He suggested that the government consider lowering the dollar amount of the vouchers and extending the program for more time.

Tammy Darvish, another major auto dealer in the Washington area, said her more than two dozen dealerships have had lots of interest in the program but its success has left dealers strapped for money as they wait for payments from the government.

Under the program, dealers credit the amount of the voucher to customers who buy new cars. They then get reimbursed by the government.

“There’s a whole lot of money out there that dealers haven’t collected on,” said Darvish, who noted that she’s taken in about 200 clunkers. “We’ve sold the cars and we’ve processed the paperwork, but we haven’t been reimbursed. I’m out about $1 million. The government is supposed to reimburse me for that.”

Darvish said she expects that even more customers will come in over the weekend to trade in their cars.

In what can only be described as ’surreal’, Dan Rather pleads with Obama to “save the press”, saying that unless something is done “then our best-trained journalists will lose their jobs.” And to this we at The Daily Nigger say, good. We hope they lose their jobs in the mainstream media for covering the tracks on all this bullshit that is going on in Washington, which is tantamount to nothing more than a slop trough for the megaglomerates that own the media and which is in bed with the politicians. Unfortunately for Mr. Rather, however, the media is in deep shit right now because they have been caught red-handed. Both liberals and conservatives now agree that the way in which the media has sold Obama to the public is nothing more or less than a con job in order to protect the same old entrenched interests. If you don’t believe me, then does AIG, Goldman Sachs, and the unions ring a bell with you? The list goes on and on such as the Cash for Clunkers deal, which amounted to nothing more than another failed bailout of the auto industry. But of course at almost 10% unemployment who has time to bother keeping up with such trivia, when people are desperately trying to eek out a living. Stupid fucking Dan Rather. He should just keep his fucking mouth shut. He sounds ridiculous by asking the guy whom the media controls to turn right around and control them. That’ll be the day. Ever see a media company ask for a bailout from the government? I rest my case.

Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather called on President Barack Obama to form a White House commission to help save the press Tuesday night in an impassioned speech at the Aspen Institute.

“I personally encourage the president to establish a White House commission on public media,” the legendary newsman said.

Such a commission on media reform, Rather said, ought to make recommendations on saving journalism jobs and creating new business models to keep news organizations alive.

At stake, he argued, is the very survival of American democracy.

“A truly free and independent press is the red beating heart of democracy and freedom,” Rather said in an interview yesterday afternoon. “This is not something just for journalists to be concerned about, and the loss of jobs and the loss of newspapers, and the diminution of the American press’ traditional role of being the watchdog on power. This is something every citizen should be concerned about.”

Rather, who has been a working reporter for more than six decades and currently hosts “Dan Rather Reports” on HDNet, pointed out that there are precedents for such national commissions, which have been used to help other at-risk industries.

Corporate and political influence on newsrooms, along with the conflation of news and entertainment, has created what Rather called “the dumbing down and sleazing up of what we see on the news.”

Dan Rather shares some of his thoughts on the state of public media as he gives a personal interview at the Aspen Meadows on Tuesday before his speech at the Aspen Institute later that evening.

It has also thinned the amount of investigative and international journalism. The latter loss of correspondents covering America’s two foreign wars, Rather opined, is both a critical detriment to the nation and a disservice to our troops.

Tears welled in the lifelong reporter’s eyes as he discussed the dwindling number of war correspondents.

“I feel particularly strong about coverage of the wars,” he said, noting that covering the war in Afghanistan is his top priority on his HDNet program. “No apologies, both as a journalist and as a citizen I just can’t stand to leave those guys out there, fighting, dying, bleeding, getting torn up and say, ‘Look, it’s page 14 news.’ Or ‘Sorry, not on tonight’s newscast.’ It’s an example of the problem, that and not having the watchdogs.”

The free press, as established by the First Amendment to the Constitution, ought to operate as a public trust, not solely as a money-making endeavor, Rather argued, and it’s time the government make an effort to ensure the survival of the free press. If not the government, he suggested, then an organization like the Carnegie Foundation should take it on. Without action, he predicted, America will lose its independent media.

“If we do nothing more than stand back and hope that innovation alone will solve this crisis,” he said, “then our best-trained journalists will lose their jobs.”

Well, guess what. As fate would have it, all the Medicare money that has been collected by the government for all these years from all of your paychecks is going to be confiscated by the government in order to pay for national health care. You knew it was coming, and so here it is. People who have been working and paying into Medicare for years are basically going to foot the bill for health care for everybody else. Joy to the fucking world. The Democrats won’t admit what they are doing, but word is now leaking out who is going to get stuck with the bill. This is grand theft, ladies and gentlemen. But regardless of whether these scoundrels take money from Medicare, they are dead set on exercising eminent domain over your money from somewhere to pay for this.

The Senate’s top Republican accused Democrats of cutting Medicare to finance a “massive new government-run” health care plan, as the last of three House committees pushed its way through a compromise version of the health care overhaul Thursday.

“Some in Congress seem to be in such a rush to pass just any reform, rather than the right reform, that they’re looking everywhere for the money to pay for it, even if it means sticking it to seniors with cuts to Medicare,” said Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., in the latest in a series of daily Senate speeches on health care.

McConnell’s Republicans, unanimously opposed to Democratic-drafted legislation in the House, are watching warily while three members of their rank-and-file negotiate over a bipartisan plan in the Senate that could hand President Barack Obama a victory on his top domestic priority.

Across the Capitol, the House Energy and Commerce Committee plowed methodically through a stack of proposed changes to the bill, one day after the White House, Democratic leaders and a band of conservative party members reached a compromise to clear the measure.

Chairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif., presiding over the session, warned lawmakers against offering amendments that make the bill more expensive — and agreed to a Republican suggestion to limit the time allowed for debate. He said he hopes to finish the bill sometime Friday, and House leaders have promised to bring it up for a vote in the full House in September, after the congressional August break.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed confidence the committee would approve the bill, and said the full House would follow suit in the fall. She also signaled flexibility on key issues, saying that despite her own backing for abortion rights, she would not allow the issue to torpedo legislation.

Waxman’s shaky majority was on display early, when the committee voted 29-28 to defeat a Republican amendment to strengthen ID requirements designed to prevent illegal immigrants from getting Medicaid benefits.

Another controversial Republican amendment passed by voice vote, over Waxman’s objections. Backed by Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., it would bar the federal government from using research comparing medical treatments’ effectiveness to deny or ration care.

Already, Congress is running behind a timetable set by its leaders and the White House for a health care bill, and one veteran senator warned of additional slippage.

“The president wanted to have it on his desk in October,” said Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa. “He’ll probably have it in November now. But I’m very hopeful we’ll get it done at least by that time.”

Senior aides and lawmakers said privately they thought Harkin was being overly optimistic, and warned of work spreading late into December on the highly controversial issue.

Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., one of six lawmakers involved in bipartisan talks, said the legislation wasn’t “ready for prime time.” [=Code speak for more time is needed to figure out who is going to get the shaft before the Democrats get busted doing it]

The House bill and the plan under negotiation in the Senate are designed to meet Obama’s goals of spreading health coverage to millions who now lack it, while trying to slow the skyrocketing growth in medical costs.

Wednesday in the House, Democratic leaders gave in — at least temporarily — to numerous demands from rank-and-file rebels from the conservative wing of the party. The so-called Blue Dog Democrats had been blocking the bill’s passage in Energy and Commerce.

The House changes, which drew immediate opposition from liberal lawmakers, would steer away from using Medicare as the blueprint for a proposed government insurance option, reduce federal subsidies to help lower-income families afford coverage, and exempt additional businesses from a requirement to offer health insurance to their workers.

Rep. Mike Ross of Arkansas, a leader of the Blue Dogs, said the changes agreed to by the leadership in the House bill would cut its cost by about $100 billion over 10 years. But his claim has been called into question.

A new break for small businesses, among other changes in the deal, also increased costs substantially, so it wasn’t clear that the agreement actually generated net savings.

Waxman said the cost of helping small businesses was offset by a reduction in the level of federal subsidies that would be available to help people buy health insurance. The net result appeared to be a wash.

The Blue Dogs’ agreement won the endorsement Thursday of the Federation of American Hospitals, representing the roughly one-fifth of hospitals that operate for profit. The group favors the measure’s patient subsidies to expand coverage and its retention of employer-provided insurance.

In a letter to Waxman, federation president Charles N. Kahn III wrote that the legislation would give people “the peace of mind that comes from having health coverage, the ability to afford the health care they need when they need it.”

The only debate left is how the media is going to be able to cover their ass for having pulled this fiasco off in the first place …

An inside look at how the Democrats really work. They will knife their own president to save their own necks, and they will do it behind closed doors – elevator doors in this case. This story is straight up to the top of the great stories, one of them being that of Julius Caesar, which is yet another example of charisma and ego corrupting politics.

Perhaps for the first time in American history, a major political party turns on its own president. Watch as John Kerry basically threw in the towel on ObamaCare. This is mutiny, folks. The Democrats know that unless they turn on Obama then they will lose badly in the elections. This is unprecedented, folks. This is historic. Meanwhile, Obama is said to be on the hook to go to a fancy resort to spend some “down time”, which in another words means he is going to get an earful from his “handlers”.

Bottom line: The people have caught on to his bullshit. Whether you believe in national health care or not is unimportant at this point, and everybody knows it. The bottom line here is that Obama is an empty suit. He is a race hustler, whom the megaglomerate coroporate media ran as some kind of politically correct savior. And now the media is going to keep their mouth shut until they find out what the end game result is going to be with their boy, if you know what I mean. This is Chicago gangster politics like none other being played out on the national stage. August is shaping up to be no recess for anyone, especially in the media.

But of course I guess after having basically handed out cash to the unions, AIG, and Goldman Sachs (to name a few), Bush is just always such an easy target to point a finger at and blame it all on him.

blamebush

The media’s silver bullet approach to anything which dares pull the rug out from under Herr Obama: Blame Bush. Surely, you will hear more of this as the summer wears on. OMG, Bush is at fault for the deficits, not Obama and blah, blah, blah….

Just to show you how fucking stupid people are to even begin to ponder this bullshit, take into consideration these facts:

1. The government can’t even properly fund and manage the so-called ‘Cash for Clunkers’ program that was supposed to pay for junking cars greater than one year old (hardly a clunker by definition).

2. Democrats, including Obama, haven’t even read the goddam bill, and even if they did it was changed yesterday and nobody has had time to read that either.

3. The media is selling America socialism, however, their corporate bosses, aka wealthy people, and government hacks are going to get the best medical care regardless of their pie-in-the-sky socialist wet dreams for the rest of us.

4. And anyway, who would believe any of these fuckers given that the stock market is going up while at the same time unemployment is also going up, which ought to send a clear message about how the “news” is bending you over in a most unscrupulous manner as they call this the beginning of a “recovery”. The only recovery people are going to need after this is a national recovery effort from Obama.
